State Advocacy Day 2024 Recap

On April 15, the Advocates for Public Policy Committee headed to the New York State Capitol in Albany for its annual Advocacy Day to advocate for issues affecting women, children, families and the League’s community partners.

The Committee held nearly 30 meetings with Senators, Assembly Members, and their staff to advocate for five bills within the focus areas of domestic violence, healthcare equity, gender equality and public safety:

  1.     Establishing the Crime of Coercive Control (S6695/A2707)
  2.     Ending the Voluntary Intoxication Exclusion (S4555B/A1065A)
  3.     Stop Silencing Survivors Act (S4233/A2555A)
  4.     Universal School Meals to Students (S1678A/A1941)
  5.     Stop Exploitative Feeds Exploitation (SAFE) for Kids Act (S7694B/A8148A)

Through these meetings, the League raised awareness and garnered crucial support for these bills.

At the end of the day, Assembly Member Rebecca Seawright (representing the Upper East Side, Yorkville and Roosevelt Island) welcomed members of the New York Junior League to the Assembly Floor where she introduced the New York Junior League to the Assembly.
