Transfer your membership from another Junior League
Welcome to the New York Junior League! We are so excited to welcome you.
Below is an overview of the transfer process to get you started:
Step One: Reach out to the administrative staff of your current Junior League chapter and have them initiate the process of transferring you to the New York Junior League.
Step Two: Transfers are processed through the Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. (AJLI), our governing body. Processing times may vary and we appreciate your patience. Once we receive notice of your transfer request, someone from our administrative staff will be in touch to complete the transition. You can reach out to membership@nyjl.org with questions in the meantime.
Your Transfer Advisor will be in touch to notify you once the transfer is complete. She will provide guidance on next steps and will be your main point of contact during this process.
Please note we are closed during the months of July and August and response times may be slower in these months.
Step Three: Attend a Transfers Orientation. These sessions provide transfers with an overview of the New York chapter and each volunteer area. Attendees have the opportunity to ask questions and mingle with other transfers and Transfer Advisors.
Upcoming Transfers Orientation Dates
- Stay tuned for upcoming orientation dates!
Orientations are held at the Astor House: 130 E. 80th St., NY, NY 10075.
We are launching an optional Transfers Training Course in 2025 from April to June. This course is not required, but is designed to provide transfers who are interested in opting in with additional education on our organizational structure and volunteer areas, as well as relationship-building opportunities. If interested in learning more or opting into the Transfers Training Course, please reach out to transfers@nyjl.org so we can provide more information.
- Those in the Transfers Training Course will not need to begin serving on a committee until fall 2025. The orientation requirement will be waived, as this information will be covered during the course.
Step Four: Place on a committee. All Active members are required to serve on a committee. Open committees and participation requirements can be reviewed in the Placement Catalogue, which can be found in the Placement section of your online profile.
Please note that Transfers do not place on the Transfers committee when transferring in. Rather, the committee is composed of Active members who are resources to set you up for success during your first two years in the New York Junior League.
Step Five: Remain engaged as a Transfer! We host several dedicated events for transfers and have a fun, engaging WhatsApp group that serves as a guide to the city. Transfers are placed in small groups with a Transfer Advisor to encourage relationship building. Transfers can remain in these groups for up to two years.
