To volunteer with the NYJL, follow these steps to become a member:
To be eligible for membership in the NYJL, a prospective member must (i) be at least 21 years of age at the time her admission is approved by the Board, (ii) have an interest in volunteerism and a commitment to community service, (iii) be able to devote time and resources to NYJL programming and events in a meaningful way. If you meet these criteria, please follow these steps:
Step 1: Complete your online profile. Get Started Now!
Once you complete your profile, you will receive an email to verify your account. Click on the verification link to return to the online member portal and to proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Sign up for a new member orientation.
After verifying your account, you will be able to register for a New Member Orientation (NMO). We typically schedule two or three NMO sessions per month throughout the year.

- September 12, 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
- September 23, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
- October 11, 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
- October 24, 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
- November 13, 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
- November 28, 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
- December 12, 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
- December 18, 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
In-person NMO will be held at the Astor House (130 E 80th St, between Lexington & Park Avenues).

At orientation, you will learn more about the NYJL and the work that we do. Additionally, we will explain how you can get involved and the next steps in the application process.
Step 3: Submit your application.
After attending an orientation, you will be able to complete and submit an online application. Applications are reviewed continuously throughout the year and confirmations are notified by email.
Step 4: Register for your Provisional Training Course.
All applicants who are accepted participate in a Provisional training course (PTC) before becoming NYJL Active volunteers. PTCs begin in mid September and mid February. Participation at all training meetings is required. All PTC meetings will be held in-person at the Astor House (130 E 80th St, between Lexington & Park Avenues) and will run from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
