2026 State Advocacy Day Highlight
On March 18, the New York Junior League Advocates for Public Policy brought a powerful presence to Albany for Advocacy Day, demonstrating a strong and unified commitment to advancing equitable policy across New York State. A total of 35 dedicated Junior League members participated, engaging in an impressive 34 scheduled meetings with legislators and their staff. In addition to these formal meetings, advocates maximized their impact by connecting with additional offices off the floor and conducting strategic literature drops to ensure our priorities reached as many decision makers as possible.
Throughout the day, members championed a focused legislative agenda aimed at supporting families, survivors, and vulnerable communities. The bills highlighted included:
- Universal Childcare – S3415A (Brisport) / A5899 (Hevesi)
- Speak Your Truth Act – S9699 (Cleare) / A687 (Gonzalez-Rojas)
- Domestic Violence Public Housing Waitlist Priority – S871 (Bailey) / A9164 (Paulin)
- Family SNAP Minimum Benefit Increase – S665 (May) / A1318 (Gonzalez-Rojas)
- Promoting Safety and Accountability in Transportation – A1651 (Rosenthal)
Advocates shared personal stories, data, and insights to emphasize the real world impact of these policies, reinforcing the Junior League’s longstanding commitment to advancing public policy solutions that promote safety, equity, and opportunity. Through these efforts, advocates were able to raise awareness of these critical bills and successfully secure additional co-sponsors.
The day reflected not only the strength of our collective voice but also the importance of continued civic engagement. The work does end there though. SAPP members will be continuing to build relationships, scheduling meetings, sending emails and making calls through the end of the legislative session to get the legislative slate passed.
We encourage members to take action by calling their New York State Senators and Assembly Members to voice support for these important bills.
Our advocacy packet, which outlines these priorities in greater detail, can be accessed here.
Through collaboration, preparation, and passion, the New York Junior League continues to make meaningful strides in shaping policy and advocating for communities across the state.
