Sarah Cloonan, 2025 Outstanding Volunteer
When Outstanding Volunteer Sarah Cloonan transferred to the New York Junior League after moving to the City for graduate school, she was committed to continuing her volunteer work in the community. From her first placement on Milbank Pelham-Fritz to serving as an inaugural member of the New View committee, Sarah’s work in the Child Health and Welfare Council spanned six years. The experience deepened her understanding and advocacy for families experiencing housing insecurity and young adults navigating foster care and the juvenile justice system.
Sarah’s passion for mentoring and volunteer training allowed her to make a significant impact on the NYJL membership experience as Leadership Development committee co-chair from 2020-22, facilitating two virtual Leadership Days and playing a vital role in fostering engagement and development during the pandemic.
The Leadership Development committee’s “infectious enthusiasm” in supporting co-chairs and member pathways continues to inform her volunteer work today, she said. Sarah became the Strategy, Advocacy & Communications Senior Council Head in 2023-24 and currently serves on the Board of Directors and as chair of the Strategic Planning Work Group.
“The overarching theme of my NYJL experience has been working alongside dedicated volunteers in the advancement of our mission,” Cloonan said. “They continue to impress and inspire me, and I am so thankful to be on this journey with amazing women who support and uplift one another.”
