Sallie Krawcheck shows NYJL volunteers how to be the boss of our money
Stocks. Mutual Funds. Investment Portfolios. Does this all sound like financial jargon? Perhaps it does. However, Sallie Krawcheck, the CEO and Co-Founder of Ellevest, a digital investment platform for women, believes this is one of the most important and impactful ways for women to be the boss of their own money. Sallie joined the NYJL’s Femme Finance group for a presentation to our volunteers on all things finance.
While the investing world may seem like a tricky place, the biggest mistake women can make is leaving our money solely in savings. Sallie dives into this further in Mind the Gap and Close It: The Ellevest Guide to Dominating Your Financial Future, a free resource available on the Ellevest website. From retirement planning to money management in the household, building a financial investment plan for yourself will lead to the biggest return on your money for the future.
One of the key takeaways that volunteer Kelly Hall had from the event was that talking about money isn’t as taboo as it seems. “Sallie created an environment where I felt like I was listening to one of my closest girlfriends. Sallie’s personal anecdotes and experience resonated with me and I felt a sense of urgency that I needed to make a positive change in my life through investing. I also developed greater confidence to start talking about money and investing, especially with my friends and women in my family. Most importantly, women will continue to face gender gaps when it comes to money; but I would like to do my part to stop that cycle by investing in my future, as it’s something within my control.”
By sharing information and creating a platform founded by women, for women, Sallie has changed the game and made space for women to feel comfortable having conversations about money and investing. You may not know all there is to know about mutual funds and stocks, but know the financial gurus of Ellevest are here to help you achieve your goals. The NYJL was lucky to have Sallie join us and provide information to our volunteers so they are prepared to take control of their finances.
