Gena Lovett, 2025 Outstanding Sustainer

Outstanding Sustainer Gena Lovett had long been engaged in her community when she joined the New York Junior League. Her expertise would leave a lasting impact. Through her participation, she enhanced her skills and gained valuable expertise that would benefit other nonprofits.

As an active member of the NYJL, Lovett completed a nonprofit clearinghouse course, which led to her serving on various boards, including the Women’s Prison Association, Citizen Union, Citizen Foundation, New York Women’s Agenda, and CharitySTRONG. Throughout her time with the NYJL, she advanced through the leadership ranks and served as president from 2008 to 2010.

Lovett continues to make a difference in the city today in leadership roles for the Abyssinian Baptist Church, Worldview Development USA, and The Beat 139 Foundation. She also currently serves as the chair of the NYJL Community Advisory Council, Presidential Advisor for the Investment Work Group, and Treasurer for the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI). Lovett was honored as an Outstanding Volunteer in 2002.

“Being a member of the New York Junior League has significantly enriched my life by allowing me to connect with an extraordinary group of women who have become lifelong friends,” Lovett said. “I enjoy surrounding myself with like-minded individuals while also embracing those with different perspectives. I have come to greatly value the skills of collaboration and understanding one another.”
