Adult Education & Mentoring

Adult Education & Mentoring - New York Junior League
NYJL Senior Friends committee volunteers provide companionship and activities for seniors at Jewish Home Lifecare.

Adult Education & Mentoring is one of the New York Junior League’s four key community areas. NYJL committees within Adult Education & Mentoring make a difference in the lives of at-risk adults in the New York City community by providing guidance and support in the following areas:

  • • life skills training
    • esteem and self-advocacy
    • support and emergency services
    • workshops focused on self-esteem, stress and anger management, journal writing and goal-setting, housing, career search, and finances
    • companionship and support for the elderly
    • other social services

Adult Education & Mentoring committees work with established NYJL community partners. New Beginnings works with the Women’s Prison Association to provide educational workshops to female inmates. Cancer Awareness and Support works with multiple nonprofit organizations to spread awareness on cancer prevention and provide support to cancer patients and their loved ones. Crisis Intervention works with New York Presbyterian Hospital’s Domestic & Other Violence Emergencies program to provide advocacy and counseling to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault during their stay in the emergency department. Volunteers on NYJL Senior Friends provide companionship and activities for seniors at Jewish Home Lifecare. Rights of Passage at Covenant House provides housing for at-risk young men and women, with NYJL volunteers planning and leading educational workshops. Steps to Success works with multiple organizations to provide job skills to at-risk and underserved populations.
