Winter Ball ‘Riviera Romance’ Creates a Magical Night at the Pierre Hotel

On March 3 at the Pierre Hotel, the New York Junior League hosted our sixty-sixth annual Winter Ball. The event raised money to support our work in the community and celebrated the work of our volunteers, particularly our five Outstanding Volunteers and two Outstanding Sustainers.

Mistress of Ceremonies Jean Shafiroff & NYJL President Suzanne Manning with Outstanding Volunteers Kim Essency Pillari, Elizabeth Fabsits Pavone, Nicole Ferrin, Katie Cook, & Mary Catherine Burdine and Outstanding Sustainers Wendy Wade & Nancy Houghton.

Jean Shafiroff, philanthropist and author, hosted the event and served as the mistress of ceremonies. We honored our Outstanding Sustainers, Nancy Houghton and Wendy Wade, and our Outstanding Volunteers Mary Catherine Burdine, Katie Cook, Nicole Ferrin, Elizabeth Fabsits Pavone, and Kim Essency Pillari.

Jeri Powell, co-chair of Winter Ball remarked, “The Winter Ball Committee was so pleased to have the opportunity to create a beautiful event to honor seven exemplary volunteers. In addition, thanks to the tremendous support of NYJL volunteers and friends and family, as well as our Sponsors, we were able to raise significant funds going directly into fueling the charitable activities of the NYJL.”

Suzanne Manning, President of the NYJL, presented each Outstanding Sustainer and Outstanding Volunteer with their award, and it is considered to be the highest honor that NYJL volunteer can receive throughout their volunteer career with the New York Junior League.

She was honored to present these awards and stated, “The New York Junior League was founded in 1901 by Mary Harriman who lead a group of women whose mission was to help and advocate for New York City’s most vulnerable populations. This year’s Outstanding Sustainers and Outstanding Volunteers truly embody the humanitarian spirit of Mary Harriman and through their remarkable community service help keep her legacy alive.”

Through the fundraising efforts of both tickets sales and the event’s auction, Winter Ball raised just over $520,000 for our charitable activities in the greater New York City area. Thank you to our sponsors and attendees for your support!
