The NYJL goes around the community, around the clock!
Starting this past Friday, October 14 at 9:00 a.m. in Brooklyn, NYJL and other NYC volunteers have been working Around the Community, Around the Clock! They will continue to do so until Wednesday, October 19 at 6:00 a.m.
In total, over 400 volunteers will participate in this inaugural non-stop community service event! These include NYJL volunteers of all ages, community members, students and more! What has everyone been doing? Around the Community, Around the Clock started in Brooklyn with 20+ volunteers cleaning and packing over 200 cots for the American Red Cross disaster relief. Then a team went to Win (Women In Need) to process and organize donations of professional clothing for residents to interview in and wear to work. By Friday evening, volunteers spent 4 hours building 500 Red Cross Kits for the Armed Forces!
Over the weekend, the work continued. Planting over 300 bulbs in Marcus Garvey Park, unloading food delivery trucks and stocking shelves at Common Pantry Breakfast, serving over 350 meals at the Holy Apostles Kitchen, conducting workshops on Healthy Lunches and Making Music with everyday objects, teaching art lessons, preparing and monitoring homeless shelters overnight, decorating 250 holiday bags for God’s Love, We Deliver, and culminating with a Red Cross ride along to provide support at the scene along with first responders!
And this is just a sampling of some of the work that was completed! Click here to view photos of all the events and to get involved!
