Playground Improvement Project completes its work in Columbus Park and Foley Square

Columbus Park Foley Square Graphic

On October 17th and 18th, Playground Improvement Project (PIP) committee members were joined by over 80 NYJL volunteers in Columbus Park & Foley Square to complete the improvements the committee had begun last spring. Volunteers participated in of tasks including repainting areas surrounding the park’s basketball court, repainting the heavily used playground equipment, weeding garden beds, and planting approximately 5,000 daffodil and tulip bulbs.

One of the areas the committee focused on was providing some finishing touches to help spruce up was the Wedding Garden, an area located just outside the City Clerk’s office where the Marriage Bureau is located. It is exciting to think that the hard work done by the NYJL and PIP will be featured in many newly married couples’ wedding photographs! We look forward to sharing pictures in the spring, once winter has passed and the flowers are in full bloom!

If you didn’t have a chance to volunteer with PIP this fall, there will be additional opportunities to volunteer this spring! Stay tuned for further announcements regarding the spring park dates and most importantly, PIP’s new project location! To learn more about PIP please contact the committee at
