Paid Family Leave: NYJL Call to Action!

The Advocates for Public Policy Committee (APP) continues to work hard advocating for the Paid Family Leave Insurance Act (Paid Leave), and we are excited to report that it’s been gaining traction in Albany throughout this year’s legislative session.
Governor Andrew Cuomo kicked off the year by championing Paid Leave in his State of the State and including his Paid Leave proposal in the 2017 budget plan. The New York State Assembly passed their Paid Leave bill in early February. Governor Cuomo’s priority now is to pass the bill as part of the state budget for the upcoming fiscal year, which starts on April 1. Therefore the next 5 weeks are crucial!
As a result, we are asking all NYJL volunteers to get involved and help us keep the momentum going for this important policy reform.
Here’s what you can do:
- Stop by our table in the Astor House lobby on March 3, 9, 10, 14, and 15: Sign a postcard supporting Paid Family Leave. APP will be delivering signed postcard petitions to the State Senate on March 17 during budget negotiations.
- Join APP in Albany on March 17: APP will be taking a bus to Albany on Thursday, March 17 with the NY Paid Family Leave Coalition to meet with Senators, deliver the signed postcards, and share personal stories in support of Paid Leave. We need your participation to amplify our voice!! Contact APP if you are interested in participating.
- Help us make the case for New York’s small businesses: If you’re a small business owner, come join the campaign! Touch base with the Advocates for Public Policy Committee because we need local small businesses to push back on the misinformation about paid family leave.
