Monday Night Trivia and Tacos at Hope Lodge

On Monday, March 21, eleven NYJL Cancer Awareness and Support committee volunteers gathered to serve a delectable taco bar dinner to adults undergoing cancer treatment at the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge Jerome L. Greene Family Center New York City (Hope Lodge).  Individuals who are receiving specialized, lifesaving treatments in Manhattan are able to stay at Hope Lodge at no cost, removing the additional burden of travel and lodging expenses.

Once a month, Cancer Awareness and Support committee volunteers dish out fun meals and socialize with the patients. Following dinner, they engage in various games and activities to provide communal support and a positive change in routine. During this most recent dinner, volunteers engaged with over 20 adults in various spring-inspired trivia games such as Springtime Scattergories, Picture IDs for March Madness and a round of ‘Name That Artist’ involving songs with Sun in the title.

Since opening in 2007, the Hope Lodge Jerome L. Greene Family Center, located on West 32nd Street, has provided numerous cancer patients and their families’ free housing while undergoing treatment treated in Manhattan. This ecofriendly building in Midtown Manhattan offers 60 private guest rooms in a homelike setting, and currently, there are more than 30 Hope Lodge locations throughout the United States.

In addition to providing emotional care and shelter, Hope Lodge New York City offers communal spaces such as a meditation space, computer resource center, library and a family visitation room. Working with organizations, like the New York Junior League, help ensure that guests are supported during their time there.
