Girls’ Leadership Institute Gets Moving with Zumba

girls leadership institute gets moving with zumba

The Girls’ Leadership Institute (GLI) committee generates fun, interactive and creative self-empowering and goal-oriented lessons for the young female mentees ages 7-11 years old. In partnership with community-partner SCAN, GLI offers weekly programs ranging from self-expression, team building, to sports in order to expose and teach the GLI-ers something new.Recently, GLI invited a Zumba instructor to teach an hour class for the mentees to learn body coordination and to emphasis the importance of exercise and healthy lifestyle (in a fun way!).

The lesson began with stretching and warming up followed by the instructor teaching basic Zumba, salsa, and dance moves. The mentees were very focused and benefited from the lesson, with many of them asking the instructor questions after the lesson was complete. The Zumba lesson is one of the many successful GLI programs the committee plans and implements to ensure to maximize the mission to inspire a diverse group of young girls to challenge themselves.
