C.H.E.F. Supports West Side YMCA’S FitForAll 5K and Boofest
New York Junior League’s Cooking and Health Education for Families (C.H.E.F.) committee kicked off the Fall season by participating in the West Side YMCA’s annual FitForAll 5k and BooFest on October 24. Hundreds of runners, many of whom were dressed in Halloween gear, braved the frigid morning temperatures to run or walk the race with friends and family. Proceeds from the event benefit childhood obesity and youth diabetes prevention programs.
C.H.E.F. volunteers showed their active support by distributing water, making mini yogurt, fruit, and granola parfaits, helping with zombie face painting and directing and cheering for the participants. “C.H.E.F. has worked with the West Side YMCA on this event for several years and we are proud to support their commitment to preventing childhood obesity and diabetes through exercise and nutrition,” said JuLee Colner, C.H.E.F. co-chair.
C.H.E.F. empowers families to make life-long healthy choices by teaching proper nutrition and physical activity while placing an emphasis on planning, convenience, collaboration and fun. Its workshops and programs, held in various locations in New York City, provide education about healthy meals and snacks to prepare on-the-go. Exercise activities and nutrition lessons are tied in as informative sessions on how to make a commitment toward living a healthy life.
