The Harriman Circle is an exceptional group of volunteers, friends and sponsors who support the Annual Gala at the Benefactor level.   • The evening will also offer access to other ways to support our community partners and the City of New York during a time of historic need.

Gala Mistress of Ceremonies: Alissa Anderegg

Throughout her life, NYJL volunteer Alissa Anderegg has used her voice to inspire others. From appearing on stage and screen as a professional child actress to speaking around the U.S. as one of the country’s leading Alzheimer’s activists to lending her media expertise to world-renowned companies— and now as Miss World America 2020— Alissa has lived by her mission to educate, empower, and activate. Alissa has been featured in HBO, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Huffington Post, Maria Shriver’s Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement national campaign, and more. She is currently a Celebrity Champion of CaringKind: The Heart of Alzheimer’s Caregiving.  We are proud to welcome Alissa as our Mistress of Ceremonies!

Evening Reception Event Preview: Charcuterie Board Lesson with Krewe de Fromage

  • Krewe de Fromage is a female-owned, Upper East Side custom cheese and charcuterie board business. Born during the pandemic, Krewe has created a fun and safe way to celebrate all of life’s special moments from a picnic to a birthday brunch with unique conversation starting boxes.
  • Join us as Krewe owner, Jen, teaches us how to create a delicious cheese board at home! You’ll learn the history of the ingredients, fun cutting and shaping techniques, and the best things that should always go on a successful cheese board.
  • Cheese and charcuterie board kits are available for purchase and may be picked up on the day of the event, but they aren’t required to participate. Aviation Gin partnered with Krewe de Fromage and included a complimentary airplane bottle in every kit!

Evening Reception Event Preview: Dinner Party at Home with Jane Cooks for You & Social Studies.

  • Gather your friends for an evening of merriment and fun! Join Chef Jane Morgan from Jane Cooks For You for a virtual cooking class! Jane is a recipe developer and personal chef based in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, who specializes in fresh, seasonal spins on classic comfort foods.
  • To complete the dinner party atmosphere, guests have the option to choose dinner and dining décor from Social Studies. The women behind Social Studies have made gathering stylish and hassle free. All the styling, mixing, and matching is done for you, so that the evening can be an unforgettable experience!

  • Shopping List for Spicy Rigatoni Alla Vodka:
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 yellow onion or 2 shallots
  • 5 garlic cloves
  • 1 4.5 oz tube or can of tomato paste
  • 2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 oz vodka
  • 1 pound rigatoni, or your other favorite pasta shape
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup grated parmesan
  • Basil or parsley, for serving
  • For a gluten-free version, any gluten-free pasta will work. For a vegan version, sub 1 cup of unsweetened non-dairy cream for the heavy cream (Silk and Ripple have good neutral tasting ones) and vegan parmesan or nutritional yeast for the parmesan!

Evening Reception Event Preview: Solo Performance by “King” Solomon Hicks

  • Enjoy the sounds of virtuoso blues guitarist King Solomon Hicks performing a live set and taking your requests!
  • King Solomon’s style of music includes jazz, blues, classical, gospel, R&B, funk, Afro-Cuban, and classic rock. He also teaches beginning and advanced guitar along with music theory.
  • A blues guitarist since he was 13, King Solomon recorded his first album Embryonic at 14 with the Cotton Club All-Star Band and has toured in Spain, Denmark, Germany, Mexico, Japan, Bahamas, Bermuda, Barbados, and the United States.
  • King Solomon is a New York Junior League favorite, having played at the Astor House for several festive events in the past several years. He is pleased to be able to help us celebrate our wonderful 2021 Class of Outstanding Sustainers and Outstanding Volunteers!

Evening Reception Event Preview: Cocktail Tutorial with 67 Orange

  • 67 Orange, a Black owned speakeasy in Harlem, will present brief history of cocktail mixology in Harlem followed by a tasting of three Black-owned spirit brands and a cocktail demo.
  • Guests will have the opportunity to pre-purchase cocktail kits to go along with the experience (although not required to enjoy the presentation).
  • The kits will contain three different tasting spirits plus the ingredients to make one cocktail (two servings). The cost will be $50** per kit.

  • Kits will be mailed out by April 20, and available for pickup from the location if purchased by April 23.
  • **Shipping and Handling fee will be between $10-$20 as indicated by the vendor based on shipping location in the US.

Annual Gala Journal

The 2021 Annual Gala Journal is a 100+ page souvenir publication that will be distributed to all of our guests and displayed on this webpage. The Journal includes commemorative ads, the event program for the evening, biographies of the honorees, and highlights of the NYJL’s community work. Honorees treasure the messages of support and celebration included in this document! View last year’s Journal here.

Friends, family, and supporters of our honorees are invited to purchase congratulatory ads in the Journal. Two types of ads are available:

  • Friends and Family Ad  Purchase Friends and Family Ad
  • Individual New York Junior League volunteers and/or their immediate family are invited to purchase Friends & Family advertisements in honor of the 2021 Outstanding Sustainers and Outstanding Volunteers.
  • Full-page (dimensions are 7.375”h x 7.5”w), printed in black and white, featuring one black and white photo and a maximum of four lines of text for $500.
  • Tribute Ad  Purchase Tribute Ad
  • Corporations and groups of supporters are invited to purchase a Tribute Ad in honor of the NYJL and the 2021 Outstanding Sustainers and Outstanding Volunteers.
